🕯️ Wick It Right: Your Quick Guide to Wick Selection & Placement

Getting the wick right is essential for a clean, even burn. While we provide tested guidelines, every candle setup is unique—fragrance oils, wax blends, and dyes can all impact wick performance, so testing is key.

① 📏 Measure Your Jar’s Inside Diameter

Start by working on a stable, heat-safe surface.
Use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the inner width of your container.
Double-check your measurement and write it down—accurate sizing is the first step toward choosing the perfect wick.

② ✅ Select the Right Wick

Once you have your jar’s diameter:

  • Refer to our Wick Size Chart to find the best match.

  • Make sure to consider your wax type and whether fragrance or dye is being used.

Proper wick sizing helps prevent issues like tunneling, excessive soot, or poor scent throw.

③ 🔥 Single or Double Wick?

For wide containers, a single wick may not be enough.
If your jar requires two or more wicks:

  • Divide the total diameter by the number of wicks.

  • Use that smaller measurement to find a suitable wick size from the chart.

📌 Example: A 10 cm jar using 2 wicks = use the wick size recommended for a 5 cm jar.

Even spacing = even burn.

④ 🧲 Securing the Wick

To place your wick securely:

  • Apply a small dot of hot glue to the bottom of the metal tab (sustainer).

  • Press it firmly into the center of the jar for strong adhesion.

  • You may mark the center with a removable marker to guide placement.

For double wicks:

  • Divide the jar in half visually or with markings.

  • Position each wick equal distance from the center and outer edges.

🟡 Tip: You can also use strong glue dots as an alternative to hot glue.

✨ Final Thought

Wicking is both a science and an art—these tips offer a solid foundation, but your own testing will always be the best guide.

🔐 Safety First: Your Candle-Making Checklist

We’re all about creativity—but safety comes first. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned maker, please take a moment to review these important precautions before diving in.

🥽 Gear Up Before You Begin

Protect yourself while working. Always wear:

  • Protective goggles to shield your eyes
  • Gloves to keep your hands safe during handling

Even the most harmless-looking materials can be reactive—so suit up, just to be safe!

📄 Know Your Materials

Before using any new product:

  • Review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for important handling and hazard info
  • Follow any step-by-step instructions to ensure proper use and storage

Knowledge = safe making.

♨️ Heat With Caution

When working with warmed wax:

  • Never exceed the recommended temperature range
  • Use only within the suggested percentages for candles
  • Always monitor your heating source carefully

Hot wax can burn or ignite if mishandled—treat it with care.

🚫 Surface Awareness

Wax and additives may damage certain surfaces. Avoid direct contact with:

  • Polished wood
  • Painted finishes
  • Plastic or leather items

Work on a protected surface and clean up spills promptly to avoid permanent marks.

🧸 Keep Out of Reach

For everyone’s safety:

  • Store waxes, fragrances, and dyes away from children and pets
  • If anyone in your household has a sensitivity to scents, take extra caution when working with or burning scented candles

🏷️ Label Every Candle

Every candle you create should include a proper warning label to inform customers or gift recipients about:

  • Safe burning practices
  • Burn time
  • Surface placement
  • Fire risk precautions

It’s not just a good habit—it’s a crucial part of product safety.
