🕯️ How to Use Paraffin Wax: A Step-by-Step Candle Making Guide

These directions are based on our own lab testing.

🧹 Get Set Up

  • Protect your workspace with paper or plastic sheets—wax can drip!

  • Work on a flat, sturdy surface.

  • Place and secure your wicks in containers ahead of time.

  • Use a temporary marker to show how full each jar should be.

♨️ Step 1: Melt the Wax

  • Use indirect heat (like a double boiler or wax melter). Never melt wax over direct flame.

  • Heat gradually until the wax turns fully transparent—aim for 90°C to 95°C.

  • Avoid exceeding 100°C, as this may affect how the wax sets and performs.

🌈 Step 2: Mix In Colour & Scent

  • Add your chosen dye before the fragrance for a smoother blend.

  • Once the wax reaches 85°C–90°C, stir in your fragrance oil gently for about a minute.

  • For single-wax paraffin candles, a 3% to 5% fragrance load works best, depending on the strength of the scent.

🕳 Step 3: Time to Pour

  • Let the wax cool to around 75°C—it should still look clear but not too hot.

  • Fill each container to just below the fill line (about 2cm from the top).

  • Save some wax for a second pour later.

  • Ensure the containers are at room temperature for even setting.

Step 4: Cool & Top Up

  • Allow the candles to sit for at least 12 hours after the initial pour.

  • Gently reheat your leftover wax to 70°C–75°C using the same indirect method.

  • Fill the rest of the container to the marked line.

  • Let the candles cure for another 12 hours.

💡 Tip: If needed, you can do up to three pour layers to get a smooth top and excellent container adhesion.
